2022 OUTREACH NEPAL PROJECT
Many may be familiar with the statement “oral health is the window to overall health” and the importance of this is being realised worldwide. However, there are many countries where majority of the population are lagging behind in receiving oral health education. Nepal, a developing country falls under this category. The importance of outreach in both education and treatment intervention to countries like Nepal is essential, especially as the resources given to oral health are lower than many other domains of public health.
2020 COVID OUTREACH PROJECT
During the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of Nepali citizens living and earning in foreign countries were returning back home in Nepal. Some had lost their jobs and had no place to stay in foreign land and some made the conscious decision to get back home to be with their family.
Nepali citizens who were travelling from India were stranded in Nepal-India border with no food, water and shelter for several days before they were transported to quarantine camps, due to the lack of resources in Nepal. The quarantine camps where they had to stay whilst waiting for their PCR tests were of substandard conditions. The camps were overcrowded with lack of hygiene and basic necessities such as food and water. Lack of these amenities and PCR tests caused deaths of many migrants in the camps.
